Welcome to our class page.

Here you find all you need to know about school day in Year 1, see some of the amazing work we produce as well as our Moorcroft Marvels.

Some important things for the year:

• PE day is Monday - Children to come in their PE kit of black pumps/trainer, black joggers/shorts, a white T-shirt and a black hoodie (if needed)
• Reading books and diaries to be in school each day.
• Reading books will be changed in accordance with children's RWI groups. 
• Children will receive RWI sounds work to bring home. This is for them to tick off once they can read each word using their new sound.

Meet Steg, our class dinosaur. He loves adventures.

Steg will be going home with a child over the weekend for some fun. Please write in his memories book to share your adventures. If you can add some pictures.

RWI

Children are grouped into ability for daily RWI sessions. 

These sessions involve learning sounds, blending, reading and writing skills.

Your child should have a sound sheet each time they learn a new sound. 

These should be ticked off once they can read the words containing that sound.

We will be holding an after school phonics club in the new year, please look out for letters home.

Phonics is a really big part of children's learning. Once they can read they can access all parts of the curriculum, so please listen to your child read and practise their sounds with them.

Soon, children will be receiving a set of high frequency words. These are words that are difficult to blend and will be learn as sight words. Children will need to be able to read and spell them by the end of Year 1.
