Good To Be Green Behaviour System

It's Good to be Green!

Our new ‘Good to be Green’ behaviour system is an effective way of promoting positive behaviour by rewarding pupils who consistently demonstrate expected behaviours. Alongside the system promoting positive behaviour, it supports teachers in tracking those children who may find it difficult to display the school's expected behaviour standards.

Good to be Green is a very visual system with child friendly resources. This provides children with the opportunity to easily see how they are doing in class.  At Moorcroft Wood, we believe that it is important to promote a positive message regarding behaviour management at all times and ‘Good to be Green’ is a means of promoting our high expectations of positive behaviour. If a child has had a bad day, they can start afresh the following day.

Every child starts their day on a positive note with a green card displayed in their pocket of the class chart. The card says- ‘It’s Good to be Green!’ and the children soon learn to associate being on ‘green’ with a feeling of positivity knowing they are demonstrating the expected behaviours. This idea starts in Nursery all the way through to Year 6.

How it works!

1. Every pupil will start their day on a Good to be Green card.

Children who remain green all day will receive 10 Moorcoins alongside the 10 they receive for attendance.

2. A child will be given an intial verbal warning to remind them they are displaying unacceptable behaviours. If a child continues to display the unacceptable behaviours, they will then receive a 'Stop and Think' card.

3. After this children will receive another warning, if the behaviour then continues further they will receive a yellow 'Warning Card'. This will be placed in the child's pocket of the chart. The child will then miss 5 minutes of their breaktime. This could be the same day if the card was issued before the morning break time, or the following day if the card was issued after this.

Children have the opportunity to return to green by 3:00pm if they start to rectify their behaviour and display the expected standard. If the child has managed to return to green, they will receive 5 Moorcoins for correcting their behaviour.

4. If a child continues to display unacceptable behaviours they will be issued another warning.

5. Children that continue to display the unacceptable behaviour will then be issued with a red 'Consequence Card'. The child will then miss 15 minutes of their breaktime. This could be the same day if the card was issued before the morning break time, or the following day if the card was issued after this.

6. Children can be issued a red 'Consequence Card' if they display more serious behaviours. This means children do not have to go through all the previous steps and can go 'straight to red'.

When red cards are issued the parent/carer of the child will be informed.

7. Parental meeting will be held for children regularly receiving red/yellow cards to discuss their child's behaviour.

Teachers and Leaders will also look out for pupils who demonstrate exemplary green behaviours each day. These children will be highlighted to Mrs Roper and/ or Mrs Adair and could find themselves in receipt of a 'Gold Moorcoin' which is equivalent to 20 Moorcoins. Once per half term, a child will be chosen to receive a 'Gold Award'. This will be delivered directly to the child's address and will be worth 50 Moorcoins.
