PSHE

Intent

At Moorcroft Wood we follow a broad and balanced PSHE curriculum that encompasses learning around relationships, health and well-being, online safety and living in the wider world. We aim to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to develop into well-rounded individuals and lead confident, healthy and independent lives. Children will develop the confidence to ask questions, challenge the information they are offered, draw on their own experience, express their views and opinions in a healthy manner and put into practice what they have learnt in their own lives. We believe PSHE should be an area of learning where self-esteem, positive attitudes and a child-centred approach are fostered and nurtured.

Curriculum / Progress Map

At Moorcroft Wood, we use the SCARF Coram Life Education scheme to teach Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

Coram Life Education is the leading charity provider of relationships, health, wellbeing, and drugs education to children across the UK. The SCARF scheme is a whole-school approach that promotes positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience and achievement. It meets all DfE requirements for statutory Relationships and Health Education and is mapped to the PSHE Association's Programme of Study.

SCARF is a spiral curriculum meaning that topics are revisited, and learning built upon, during each school year. Our whole-school SCARF topics run right through from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to the end of Key Stage 2.
