MATHS
In Maths, the students have been learning a variety of different each term and continuously developing upon these skills. The students have learnt formal written methods that have progressed on from their KS1 knowledge, in multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.
The students used modelling materials of lollypop sticks and playdoh to have a go at making some 3D shapes to help fill in the different properties. They used the shapes to find out how many faces, vertices and edges they each have.
ENGLISH
In Year 3, they have been completing numerous different books and different types of writing styles. They have created a wide variety, ranging from retells, character descriptions, diary entrys and chronological reports.
SCIENCE
In Science, the students have been completing an array of experiments for their different topic work. They investigated whether objects were opaque, transparent or translucent and for celebrating British Science Week, we focused on the solubility of different materials.
RE
DT
In DT, the children were looking at creating their own predators using a form of pneumatic system. The children were able to create their own choice of predator, as long as they were able to use a balloon integrated into their design to create movement.
In DT, the children were looking at the construction of neolithic houses.
The students created their houses in groups of 5, developing upon their skill of wood work.
The children used handheld saws, vices, glue and array of natural materials to create their own adaptations.
ART
In Art, the students created their own watercolour wash background using watercolour paints and then they sketched a bird of prey onto this. The students used different HB grade pencils and different sketching techniques to complete these.
The students also have been working with tools to mould clay to recreate a figure lying on the ground, that replicates the figures which were found after the eruption of the volcanoes in Pompeii.
CURRICULUM
For preparation for their new curriculum topic, Year 3 were requested to complete a project based on the Ancient Egyptians. In Summer term, the students will be focusing on 'What was important to the Ancient Egyptians?'.
WORLD BOOK DAY
The students celebrated World Book Day, where they dressed up and had fun-filled activities relating to their favourite book and 'The Wizard of Oz'
During World Book Day, the students completed sketches of the Wicked Witch inspired by the new film 'Wicked'.
VE DAY
Today we celebrated the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe and the children in Year 3 completed many different activities today such as creating their own flag, creating stain glass windows, learning Makaton to war time songs and making their own spitfire aeroplanes.
YEAR 3 CONKERS TRIP
For Year 3’s trip, we made a visit to Conkers which is an outdoor activity centre within a national forest. The students completed a variety of different activities; such as underwater pond dipping to explore the different types of wildlife and their habitats, an exciting low ropes assault course, a 4D cinemas and they also even had time to play on an amazing park!
