Wellbeing session Reading for Pleasure

I'm sure you will have spotted by now that this is a different sort of day! In the same way as last week, we are going to be using our Wednesday to celebrate wellbeing. This will involve minimal screen time as we appreciate we are asking you to spend alot of time online at the moment. Because of this, there will be no live sessions however we are still here to help. We have tried to make the tasks a little more practical, so give them a go and send some photos in. We look forwarding to seeing how you get on!

Please send your work into me via Dojo, Google Classroom or email (joakley@theatlasfederation.co.uk).

We will be marking this work and using it as proof of attendance for each day.

Feel free to watch newsround each day to keep in touch with what is going on in the world.

Maths

As we are having a screen-free day, we are going to carry on working on Scale Factors in our home. You are going on another Measuring Scavenger Hunt in your house. You need to find 5 objects that are smaller in size than your maths book (I would reccommend keeping the shapes of the objects simple).

Measure your objects and draw them into your books, then increase the drawing by a scale factor of either 2 or 3. If this would go off the page, either use a double page spread or decrease your obejct by a scale factor of 2 or 3.

English

Hello there Year 6 – great final paragraphs yesterday! I was impressed to see all of the devices that you have included!

Today I would like you to put together all of our work over the previous weeks, to create a realistic looking news report.

TASK – Today we are working in our blue books, but please start a fresh, new page. Please write today’s date and an ‘E’ in your margin. No title is needed as such, as you will be using the headline you created last week.

For today’s task, I want you to create a neat, final draft of your news report, using what you have already written. Follow these steps below:

  1. Write the headline you created last week, in capital letters at the top of the page. It can take up two lines if you wish. Follow this with the by-line.
  2. Using a ruler, draw a line vertically down the page to create two columns. This will allow you to lay out your work like a real news report.
  3. Cut out and stick the image and caption from last week, somewhere on your page in one of the columns. You can then write around this, as a journalist would type around it in a newspaper.
  4. Write up your news report in your neatest handwriting, correcting and improving your work as you go. Remember things like punctuation, spacing out paragraphs and improving vocabulary. Start with your orientation, that we drafted last Tuesday, then move on to the main body and reorientation that you drafted this week.

If you were absent for any of our drafting sessions, the lessons are all recorded and available on Google Classrooms if you need a hand!

I always like to listen to some relaxing music when I’m working on presentation, so feel free to find some if you enjoy that. Can’t wait to see the final product! Mrs B 😊

Art

Hopefully we are now into our last week of remote learning! I have been so impressed with you all and I am very pleased with how you have all managed - you are legends! No child has ever in the

history of schools gone through what we have all managed these months!

So in recognition of this, I would like you be completely creative. Using the last 12 months, including 3 national lockdowns, I want you to creeate a piece of art that represents this time. You might want to split your art into sections, you might want to just create one large image with lots of hidden meanings in it, you might want to create a timeline showing the positives and negatives of this year, you might want to focus on a couple of particular memories (face masks, board games, daily exercise, a birthday)! It is completely up to you! Your art could be a drawing, painting, made on a computer, a scultpure, a collage or anything that your mind fancies!

Physical Session

As we won't be doing a live reading session today, I want you to get active! As we have learnt, when you are active, your body releases endorphins that race through your body and make you feel better! I know I go for a 30 minute walk everyday just to get this feeling. Why not go for a walk while your adult at home is on their lunch break, if you are too busy then complete some games in a garden or anything else active.

Wellbeing session

In this session, do something that makes you or your family feel good - I've attached a long list of ideas for your afternoon. These are obviously suggestions of things you may do, I look forward to seeing how you get on!
