Maths puzzle – number pyramids

Today, let’s continue solving number pyramids.

Remember, to find the missing values you add the two numbers directly beneath it.

Also do not be afraid to use column addition as the numbers get bigger!

Give both these pyramids a go and bring the missing numbers to the 9.25am Maths call to find out how you have got on.

Maths - Adding Fractions

Google Classroom video call at 09.25am for the first 15 minutes.

Great work yesterday on fractions, you have all remembered so much from November.

Before we look at today’s challenge, let’s have a recap…

What fraction of the below shape is shaded?

Can you explain your answer using fraction vocabulary like “numerator” and denominator”?

Today we are going to look at adding fractions.

This is really easy when the denominator is the same, which they will be for today’s lesson!

Let’s look at the below example…

In picture form this would look like this…

So, if we added up the number of shaded parts on both circles you would have…

Can you see what has stayed the same and what has changed?

Using the same method, let try another together…

So counting the shaped parts on both circles you get…

Now it is your turn to have a go on your own.

Today however, we are going to try something new...

The work sheet for you to complete is loaded on Google Classroom and can be completed on your device meaning you do not need to print it off or send me pictures of your completed work.

Once you have completed the questions, your answers are sent straight to me so I can see what questions you have got correct or incorrect.

To find this activity you need to…

  1. Go to Classwork at the top of your Google Classroom page

2. Click on the Adding Fractions assignment at the top of the screen, then again on the title at the bottom of the box.

3. Click on the Begin With Google.

4. The activity then opens and you write your answers in the boxes provided for each question.

5. When you are happy with all your answers, click the “I’m Done” button at the top of the page and that’s it.

If you have any issues with the above steps, I have attached the worksheets as normal below.

10.40 – 11.05

English – Vocabulary Building

Let’s use this time again to improve our vocabulary by thinking of synonyms and antonyms for adjectives.

To remind you…

A synonym is a word with the same or similar meaning.

I remember this by looking at the first letter…

          Synonym means the Same

Which then leaves antonym meaning words with opposite meanings.

So, how many different synonyms and antonyms can you come up with for the word…

big

Bring these words with you to the 11.05am call so we can share them and award prizes for the most imaginative.

English – Talk for Writing – Journey to the Jungle

Google Classroom video call at 11.05am for the first 15 minutes.

Thank you for the great start to our new Talk for Writing pack “Journey to the Jungle” yesterday.

Today’s Journey to the Jungle activity

Let’s start by re-reading the Jungle Log found on page 3.

This should make a little more sense now we have learnt what some of the more advanced vocabulary meant in yesterday’s lesson.

On that, why not show you can use those words from yesterday by using them in sentences on  page 6.

Equally if there are any other words you do not understand in the log please ask an adult for guidance.

After that, please attempt the comprehension questions about the log found on page 7.

Please remember to follow our comprehension rules. These will give you the best chance possible of getting the questions right.

If you were unable to print the whole Talk For Wrting pack yesterday, I have reattached it again today.

Or I have attached the pages just for today’s task for ease.

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

Please use this time to settle down, snuggle under a blanket and take some time for some quiet reading with the Bug Club.

Please remember

  • Once you have read a book several times and completed the questions at the end of the book, you need to click the option saying you have finished the book.

If you do not do this, I cannot see you have read it.

  • It is NOT how quickly you read the books that will decide if you move up book bands.

It is actually how you score on the questions that you are asked throughout the book.

Therefore please read the book several times before even attempting the questions.

1.20pm – 2.20pm

No Screen Mental Health Week activity

After the fantastic success of Monday’s Children Mental Health Day, I want to give you all another opportunity to do an activity you enjoy and makes you happy.

My only condition… I don’t want it to include looking or watching a screen.

Was there an activity you started on Monday and want to spend a bit more time on?

Was there an activity you wished you had tried?

Well here is your chance. I’ve listed some of the ideas again

Children’s Mental Health Week Activities

Daily Emotions Diary

Why not write a diary entry about how you feel. Why do you think you felt that way?

Was it because you liked the thought of a particular activity?

If you were not happy at a particular moment, what cheered you up?

Acts of Kindness

If you came up with some acts of kindness on Monday, why not use this time to make sure you completed some of them for someone.

Nature Art

Did you finish your art work from Monday? If not, why not try to now. Or if this wasn’t an activity chosen on Monday, why not do it this afternoon?

Go on a walk, collect some items along the way then when you get home, make a piece of art out of them

The Island of You

Design an island all about you, full of your favourite things, and favourite people. You could either draw this island, labelling it with everything you would want on it, or even build it from Lego or recycling.

Be A Dance Teacher

Did you do this activity on Monday? If so you could use this time to practise it again. Or if you haven’t made your own routine, why not try now.

Happy Playlist and Dance

Why not stick on your favourite songs and have a good old dance around your lounge, as they say… “dance like no one is watching”!

Masterchef

Have you got the necessary ingredients to do some baking? If so, you could do some baking in this time.

Box of Happiness

Did you finish your Box of Happiness? If not, why not add some more things to it. Or you could start making one this afternoon.

2.20pm – 2.35pm

Ms Hodgett Reads…

With it being National Storytelling Week we have another special guest joining us in this lesson.

Today we have Ms Hodgetts joining us to share some of her favourite stories.

Therefore please ensure you are on this call ready for a 2.20pm story start time as I know she is looking forward to seeing you all.
