Computing Reading for Pleasure

Our timetable for the day is above which will show you when each lesson will be. We will stick to these video times for the forseeable which should help you plan your day around this.

We will continue with the 3 video lessons a day, there will be 15 minutes of input and then the rest of the time will be your own to go and do the activities.

Please send your work into me via Dojo, Google Classroom or email (joakley@theatlasfederation.co.uk).

We will be marking this work and using it as proof of attendance for each day.

Google Classroom

Our video calls will be conducted via Google Classroom.

Therefore please see below the written steps from the video above.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com on your web browser (ideally Chrome) - if you are using a tablet or phone, simply download the Google Meet app.
  2. Click on "Go To Classroom"
  3. Enter your child's username and password from the slips of paper in your packs

Maths

In today's lesson we are going to apply the skills we have been practising this week. If you are uncertain of anything or would like a reminder of multiplying/diving by multiples of 10, have a look on the class page from yesterday and Monday.

You are going to need to login to mathletics for our lesson today - remember your login details are on a slip in your home learning pack.

Complete at least the following activities:

- Multiplying by 10, 100, 1000.

- Dividing by 10, 100, 1000.

Remember to use the place value grid from yesterday and Monday to help you with your calculations!

English

Hello again Year 6! Today we are going to put our ideas together to write a descriptive paragraph about the setting of the clip ‘Ruin’. Let’s watch the first 50 seconds one more time, to keep the images fresh in our minds.

RUIN - Bing video

Here are some still images from the clip that you may find useful:

There are so many things in that short snippet that we can build our description around: plant life, water, abandoned buildings, the sky, the weather and many more. If we think of our 5 senses (sights, sounds, smells, tastes and touch/sensation), they can give us even more ideas to include too!

TASK – In your blue exercise books, rule off and write today’s date. Put an ‘E’ in the margin, and the title is, ‘Ruin – Setting Description.

Today, I would like you to draw on lots of the elements we have discussed in our previous lessons to create a descriptive paragraph of the scene – no action, just description. A paragraph is usually around 6-8 lines long, but if you feel inspired and would like to go a little further, feel free to roll with your ideas. I would like to see most of the following, somewhere in your paragraph:

  • A simile or an example of personification (see last week’s examples – 06/01/21)
  • A 2a, 2a sentence (see last week’s examples – 06/01/21)
  • 5 higher level vocabulary choices (that you chose on Monday)
  • 3 different types of sentence opener (that you practised yesterday)

Remember, you don’t need to start from scratch – you can draw ideas from work you have already done in writing lessons!

Ooooo, excited to see what you produce today!

We are going to carry on with our spanish learning of numbers. We are going to move up to 99 today! Watch the video below and then complete the online games linked below.

Spanish 40: counting up to 99

Enabling children to count up to 99

I know a lot of you really enjoy your spanish lessons so feel free to complete the spanish worksheet with the numbers we've been practising - this is optional!

Reading with Mr O

Log back into Google Classroom for a live reading of our class reader "Blitzed" by Robert Swindells. See what happens next with George and his adventure!

Make sure you are logged in by 12:50pm to ensure you don't miss any of the story!

Computing

We're going to have a look at using spreadsheets over the next few weeks; spreadsheets are used by many people to quickly manipulate information. We've actually already used spreadsheets to create our Digital Art this year, however this will not look quite as pretty!

I have set up a spreadsheet with an attached information sheet in Google Classrooms so work your way through the activities and let me know if you need any help. I've also put the information sheet below on here to help.

Reading for Pleasure

Finally, lets sign off the day with 20 minutes of reading your school reader or a book that you are enjoying. Send a photo of your signed reading record through to me.

Well done for today everyone! I appreciate it has been different but now we are up and running in the routine, hopefully this will be easier for all of us tomorrow - see you bright and early at 8:40am on Google Meets! And don't forget to send all of your work through to me on Dojo, email or Google Classroom.
