Fractions of a shape

Zoom call at 9am for the first 15 minutes.

In today’s Maths lesson we will be looking at fractions.

This is something we have not yet discussed in Year 3 so we will recap what you learnt last year.

We will start this topic by looking at ‘fractions of a shape’.

The denominator is the total number of equal parts.

The numerator is the number of parts that need to be shaded.

For example…

1        Would mean you colour one part for every three parts.

3

2        Would mean you colour two parts for every five parts.

5

Give the attached questions a go and then when we get back to class we can build on this with more fraction challenges.

PE

I don’t know about you, but without my walk to and from school, I have not done much exercise recently. So let’s use this time to do some fitness.

Below are some links to some of my favourite workouts.

Choose the one you like the most, clear some space and get sweating!

One of my favourite PE With Joe workouts

Cosmic Yoga for the Pet Obsessed People amongst us

Then, please design your own workout for us to complete together when we get back to class. For you dancers out there, don’t put too many difficult moves in, as you know I’m not that flexible!

See below the first 5 moves of the workout I’m designing for us to attempt when we get back to school...

Move 1          Swing your arm around in circles for 20 seconds.

Move 2         Stretch your arms towards the ceiling for 10 seconds.

Move 3         20 star jumps

Move 4         Run on the spot for 20 sec. 20 sec rest. Run on the spot for 20 sec. 20 sec rest.

Move 5         Touch the floor, then reach for the ceiling. Repeat 5 times.

Talk for Writing – The Truth About Trolls

Zoom call at 11.15am for the first 15 minutes.

We are going to continue with our Truth About Trolls booklet today.

Yesterday we looked at using adjectives to improve our writing.

Today we are going to use “add-on Adverbs”.

Add-on adverbs prevent us having to use “and” again and again and again, which can be pretty boring to the reader.

Some examples of ‘add-on adverbs’ are…

In addition

Furthermore.

As well as these.

Therefore please start by re-reading the piece about Trolls on pages 3, 4 and 5.

After this please attempt the Add-On Adverbs activities on pages 10, 11 and 12.

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

Let’s continue our journey to Lapland, so settle down, get comfortable and spend these 20 minutes reading quietly. Remember to keep count of the number of pages you have read and tell me this number on Class Dojo so we can add them to the class total. We are nearly past France, what country will your reading take us to next.

1.20pm – 2.20pm

Maths fluency – 3D shapes

Key Stage Two Maths Year 3 Targeted Question Book – page 48 and 49.

Building on yesterdays “3D shape hunt” today I want you to attempt to answer the questions in our Maths book on pages 48 and 49.

You did a great job in counting the vertices (corners) and faces (the flat or curved surfaces on the shape) on shapes yesterday, now we just need to remember, and use, the names of these shapes.

Therefore using the attached sheet, please attempt pages 48 and 49 in your Maths question book.

A word of advice… if you are struggling to count the number of faces or edges on a 3D shapes from just a picture, do you have something the same shape at home? Having it in your hand may help. If not, do not be afraid to put a mark on each face or edge on the picture so you won’t double count any of them.

PLEASE do not complete any additional pages than those requested of you!

Reading Challenge Update

Mr Gilbey reads… Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Will Mike Teavee remain shrunk? Will that leave just Charlie Bucket and Grandpa Joe? Is there one big surprise left before the end of the factory tour?

We will also find out where your reading has got us on our Reading Challenge.

Where is Tour Guide Potts taking us now?

Join us at 2.20pm to find out!
