Key Stage Two Maths Year 5 Targeted Question Book – pages 16 & 17
Squares and Cube Numbers
Zoom call at 9:30 for the first 15 minutes (log in details will be the same for every session). Please attend if possible.
In this lesson we are going to continue developing our knowledge of square and cube numbers. Remember when we square a number you multiply it by itself and when you cube a number you multiply it by itself 3 times.
For example:
32 = 3 x 3 = 9
53 = 5 x 5 x 5 = 125
If you are asked to add these numbers you need to work out each part separately and then add the 2 numbers you find.
Eg. 22 + 33 =
So 22 is 2 x 2 = 4
And 33 is 3 x 3 x 3 = 27
So that leaves you with 4 + 27 = 31
So 22 + 33 = 41
The best place to start with these two pages is making a list of your square and cube numbers.
12 =
22 =
32 =
42 =
Etc until you get to 122 then do the same with your cube numbers up to 53

Christmas Planning
This year in school our Christmas will be a little different, no Town Hall, no singing etc but that doesn’t stop us creating an assembly that we can share with your parents at Christmas time. As a Key Stage 2 collective we will be learning about different traditions from around the world – each class has been given a continent to focus on and ours in Year 5 is Asia.
With this in mind I would like you to go and find out about a country in Asia and what their Christmas Traditions are, try not to go with the obvious countries like China or Japan – think outside the box a little. With this information we can then share what you have found as part of our assembly when we film it. I’m looking forward to finding out the different traditions that happen in Asia.

KS2 Comprehension Book Year 5 Book One Pages 14 & 15 for the guided text and Pages 18 & 19 for your independent text.
Zoom call at 11.45am for the first 30 minutes (log in details the same as Friday). Please attend if possible.
Time for Comprehension, for this lesson we will be spending a little longer on Zoom so that we can share a guided text in our books and then you can have a go at an independent text just like we do in class.
For this lesson you will need Pages 14 & 15 ready for the guided part on Zoom, this will be focusing on Pompeii. We will be taking it in turns to read and then discuss the questions and what our answers could be, using the information from the text will help us with this.
Once we have completed our guided text I will leave you to complete the independent text on Pages 18 & 19 about Basking Sharks. Remember to refer back to the text to find the answers.
1:30 – 1:50
Quiet Reading Time
Find a comfortable spot for your reading or you may want to find an unusual place for a change. Ask your adult to send me a picture of you reading in your spot or tell me where it is on Class Dojo.
Make sure you have your reading record signed by an adult at home to show that you have kept up your reading and send over a picture on Class Dojo, this will earn you more dojos.
1:50 – 2:50
PSHE
For this afternoon’s PSHE lesson I would like you to take a look at the PowerPoint below – once you have opened it, it will function better if you have it full screen. This lesson focuses on the importance of sleep and how our brains and bodies struggle to function correctly when we haven’t had the correct amount of sleep. This will highlight how important it is to make sure you get the correct amount of hours sleep each night that your bodies need. Make sure you watch the videos that are attached in the presentation too, they are really informative.

Another opportunity for us to read more of our class read The Boy at the Back of the Class. Let’s continue on the journey with Ahmet and his classmates to see what happens next. What other questions will the school have for Ahmet? Who really is the women in the scarf?
