You will need your counting objects from yesterday and a small bowl or zip lock bag that can hold ten of your objects please.
Today we will begin exploring the value of the digits in a two digit number. For the number 16, the 1 tells us how many groups of ten there are and the six tells us how many ones there are left over.
Tens | Ones |
1 | 6 |
We can use a whole part model to represent the value of each of these digits.
Task 1:
Can you guess my number by solving my riddle?
Task 2:
Using some spare paper or a page from the middle of your yellow maths book, draw yourself 2 tens frames big enough for your counting objects to fit inside. We will be able to use this as a tool for our learning going forward. They should look like this:

Today we will learn that when every we talk about ourselves, we use the the word “I.” We use the word I instead of using our name but we still make sure it has a capital letter.
We are going to make some promises today using the word I. We can build our sentences using our colourful grid.
I will clean my bedroom.
I will put away the washing.
Task 1:
Write three promises about what you will do this week. When talking about yourself, use the word I and make sure it is a capital letter. If you use names in your writing too, remember to use capital letters for those as well!

You will need the three containers you used for music last week (or something similar).
We will be exploring rhythm today. Rhythm is all about using long and short notes to make music people will enjoy. Watch the video below to learn more about rhythm.
Can you play a rhythm on your container.
Try the rhythm we use when we clap to stop in school: long, long, short, short, long.
Can you create your own rhythm?
Challenge: Can you repeat your rhythm with different pitches using your different containers?
