Describing an animal with a spine poem

Here are some of my ideas:

shiny

fierce

scary

bright

eyes

look

blink

gaze

stare

We can choose some of the words we have selected to write a spine poem sentence to describe the lizard's eye.

A lizard's fierce eyes stare at any insect that gets too close.

Let's try another feature of a lizard.

long

sharp

deadly

menacing

claws

grab

grasp

slash

poke

Amazingly, a lizard's deadly claws grasp on to branches and rocks as it climbs.

By creating a spine of adjectives, nouns and verbs, we can build a fantastically descriptive sentence.

By adding extra words into the sentence around this spine, we get some very high level writing.

Check out three levels of sentences using the same spine:

Which one do you think is the most exciting to read?

Mission

  • Choose an animal from the pictures above or think of an exciting one of your own.
  • Write at least 3 sentences that include a spine of an adjective, noun and verb to describe a feature of your animal.

Challenge

  • Aim for a high level sentence that includes "Amazingly," as your sentence opener and the conjunction "so that."

Today we will be using an algorithm (set of instructions) to guide someone through a maze using forward steps and quarter turns.

Mission 1

  • Write an algorithm to guide someone through these mazes.
  • Instruct them to make forward steps and quarter turns left and right.

Mission 2

  • Write an algorithm to guide someone through this maze however, you can only make right turns! You can make right turns of more than one quarter to get you pointing in the right direction.

Challenge

  • Design your own maze and write an algorithm to get you through.
  • You are only allowed to make left turns!
