Thursday 7th May 2020

Hi everyone,

I hope that you are all ok and looking forward to an extra long bank holiday weekend to celebrate VE Day.  You may wish to have a stay at home tea party to celebrate as mentioned in the poster on the Nursery home page.

Here are some activity suggestions for today.  I hope that you enjoy the activities.  I know there are a lot of things listed so please feel free to choose the particular activities that you think your child will enjoy.

I can be contacted on class dojo or by emailing EYFS@theatlasfederation.co.uk

Thank you once again for all your hard work and messages.

Kind Regards,

Mr Leese

Activity Suggestions for Today

Phonics and Literacy

Ruth Miskin is delivering a speed sounds lesson on her Youtube channel at 9.30am.    The programme developed by Ruth Miskin (RWI) is the one that the children will use in Reception.  Nursery children may find the lessons a little dull, but the content is ideal.

View Alphablocks Series 1 episode 24 – The link is lower down the page.

Have a go at writing lower case ‘r’.  See the video below.

Continue working on blending skills; a vital skill is mastering reading.  See the activity below where children have to match words to pictures.

You may want to visit ‘Teach Your Monster to Read’.   This is an interactive game/app that can be downloaded to a computer for free.  Choose the Reception/Pre-Kindergarten section 1 to learn sounds and when children become confident with these, move on to section 2 ‘Fun with Words’.

Check out the online English lesson from Oak Academy relating to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.   This lesson is the start of the story writing.  Although the lesson is aimed at Reception aged children as well, the teacher does also give tasks for Nursery aged children to do as part of the lesson.

This week the lessons from Oak Academy have focused on numbers 0-10.  The lesson today looks at finding the number that is one less than a given number.  Please follow the link below.

Arts, Crafts and Understanding of the World

Tomorrow we will remember 75 years since VE Day.  I have included a selection of VE Day related activities for children to choose from.  Some of the work that I have received about VE Day has been excellent – well done.  All photographs will be posted on the Nursery homepage for everyone to see.

See the link to Oak Academy for online lesson ‘Construction’.  I this lesson the children have to construct with a purpose in mind.

Physical Development

The PE lessons by Joe Wicks can be accessed on You Tube.

Check out the BBC link to visit Dance Zone where children can explore different movements related to the four seasons.

Story Time

Follow the link to the Book Trust and watch the story ‘Open Very Carefully.’  I have not included questions today because there is already quite a lot of work to do.  Enjoy the story – I know it is a very popular book in our school library.
