PE

Having read some of your diary entries from yesterday, I saw how sad some of you were when you heard the news of the school closure.

Therefore during these 25 minutes I would like you to do some exercise to wake you up, and lift your spirits.

I have called in a favour from Spider-man and below you will see an 8 minute workout from the man himself.

This is only an 8 minute workout so it should give you plenty of time to finish the workout, grab a drink of water and get settled to join us on our 9.25 Maths call.

8 Minute Kids Workout With Spiderman

Equally I know some of you preferred the yoga workouts. Therefore if you rather, please spend this time on a yoga workout.

The below yoga session is about Minecraft (Mr Gilbey knows his audience) which is around 20 minutes long. Therefore as long as you start it at 9am or just before, you should be finished in time to join the 9.25 Maths call.

Minecraft | A Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventure!

Or if you do not have access to a device or internet but have a garden, wrap up and see how many laps you can run before having to come for the Maths call.

Maths – Four Rule Word Problems

Google Classroom video call at 09.25am for the first 15 minutes.

You all impressed me with your Four Rules yesterday. So today I am raising the difficulty.

You will still need to use four rules, but this time I will not tell you what operation you need to use.

Here are some top tips to help you answer the word problems…

  • You will need to read the question carefully.
  • Consider what the question is actually telling you.
  • Underline any numbers in the question as that will help.
  • Look for key vocabulary in the question.

For example is it a question where the answer would be bigger than the numbers in the question? If so it would probably need to be an addition. Are you working out the difference between two numbers (that would be a subtraction). If the questions is talking about sharing something between people it is a divide. If we are asked to calculate a total when you have so many groups of X, that would be a multiplication.

Give the below questions a go, follow the above tips, and I have no doubt you will all do really well.

10.40 – 11.05

English – diary of our home learning experience.

I would like you to use this time to complete a diary for yesterday. Can you remember what tasks you did for me? Which ones did you enjoy (all of them I hear you shout)? What did you have for dinner?

When writing this please remember….

  • Start this new diary entry on a new page working from the back of your English exercise book and work towards the front.
  • Begin the page with “Dear Diary”
  • Remember we are writing in the past tense (I walked, I ate)
  • I want it to include emotions, not just be a list of what you did. Tell me how you felt.
  • Try to use a range of time connectives to link events (next, after that, then).

English SPaG – word types

Google Classroom video call at 11.05am for the first 15 minutes.

Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling Targeted Question Book

Page 4, 5, 8, 9 10 and 11

Can you remember the four word types we learnt last term?

If I said one of them was a noun, would that help you remember the other three?

The four words types are…

Nouns – words that name things.

Adjectives – words that tell us more about a noun.

Verbs – doing words.

Adverbs – words that describe the doing word.

On our Google Classroom call we will go through some sentences to identify these different word types to show our understanding.

After this I would like you to complete the above pages in your Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling book that is in your packs.

I know I am asking for 6 pages, however the questions are very short – some only need a word circled – so you will be able to complete all the pages within this lesson I have no doubt!

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

Time for you to find yourself a nice comfortable spot, settle down and have some quiet reading time with your book. If an adult listens to you, please remember to ask them to complete your Reading Diary as well!

1.20pm – 2.20pm

History – new topic of the Celts.

This term we are returning to History, to learn about the Celts.

Today, we are going to be introduced to the Celts with information about their way of life. This includes… when and where they lived, whether they were successful warriors, what weapons they used and what they used to wear.

After reading the below presentation, please research the Celts yourself to find at least 5 interesting facts about them. I have attached a research map for you to use if you have access to a printer. If not, you can just write your facts in your English exercise book

Below are some websites you could use to start with.

Once we have completed this lesson, I will find some time for us to practise some Celtic art either this week or next.

2.20pm – 2.35pm

Mr Gilbey reads…

As you all know, our new Class Read is David Walliams’ World's Worst Teachers!

Yesterday we were introduced to Mr Pents, and his fear of balls!

Join us again today to find out what happens to Mr Pent.

Be sure to find a little time before this call to get yourselves comfortable. Whether that be lying on the sofa, or grabbing some pillows and a quilt, and take full advantage of being read to!

As ever, please get your adult to send me some pictures of all the amazing work you complete over the day via Class Dojo.

It is a highlight for me, and means I can include you on our Class post on the school’s Facebook page.

See you all at 9.25!
