Computing Reading for Pleasure

Our timetable for the day is above which will show you when each lesson will be. We will stick to these video times for the forseeable which should help you plan your day around this.

We will continue with the 3 video lessons a day, there will be 15 minutes of input and then the rest of the time will be your own to go and do the activities.

Please send your work into me via Dojo, Google Classroom or email (joakley@theatlasfederation.co.uk).

We will be marking this work and using it as proof of attendance for each day.

Feel free to watch newsround each day to keep in touch with what is going on in the world.

Maths

Having looked at area and perimeter over the past couple of weeks, we are going to move our focus to finding the Volume of a 3d shape. This is a very similar skill to finding the area of a 2d shape but involves one more meausrement and calculation!

Look at the cuboid below. It obviously has a rectangle as the front face of it. Therefore to workout the volume of the shape, we find out its area (timesing the height by the length), but this time we also times it by the width as well.

So in the example below, to find the volume of the cuboid, you multiply the height by the length then multiplied by the widht. E.g. 6 x 8 x 3 = 144cm3.
Complete the worksheet on Gogle Classroom or below. You may want to use the Gelosian method to work out your multiplication.

English

I'm going to go through some comprehension in our Google Classroom Meeting. Make sure you are logged in and ready to write by 10:20am as we will again only have 15 minutes of live video. You will need your plain exercise book ready with something to write with.

We will complete pages Page 24/25 (Beowulf the Warrior by Ian Serraillier) & Page 26/27 (Cyber-Bullying) of your CGP Comprehension Book TWO.

RE

Key Question: Is Christianity still a strong religion 2000 years after Jesus was on earth?

Title: My influential person

Mrs Riley has set us our RE work as usual today. Look at the questions to discuss with an adult at home:

Who are the main important people in your lives? List any important/influential people who have been in your life and you can still remember.

How have those people influenced you? Was it a particularly good teacher or sports coach? What did they do for you that makes you remember them? Did they inspire you? What memories do you have of your time together?

People can still influence you when they are no longer part of your life. How has your chosen person influenced you? Have they changed anything about you? How do they make you feel?

Activity: Write at least a paragraph describing your influential person and how they have inspired you.

Use the questions above in your answer.

OR (for those who would like more of a challenge)

Write a poem describing your influential person and how they have inspired you.

Reading with Mr O

Log back into Google Classroom for a live reading of our class reader "Blitzed" by Robert Swindells. We're read the first 4 chapters and will soon find out about George's antics on his street!

Make sure you are logged in by 12:50pm to ensure you don't miss any of the story!

Computing

We're going to continue developing our Scratch skills, I've been very impressed with what we've made!

Scratch was updated in September and is now fully compatable on all computers and laptops however I would recommend using Google Chrome if you are on a laptop.

For today's task, load up Scratch online using the link below as it has a starter pack attached to it!

We are going to create a sprinting game in Scratch, the information in the link below will show you an example of the game and give you all the steps to make it.

Work your way through the instructions using the green button at the bottom of the page to move onto the next steps.

Reading for Pleasure

Finally, lets sign off the day with 20 minutes of reading your school reader or a book that you are enjoying. Send a photo of your signed reading record through to me.

Well done for today everyone! See you bright and early at 8:40am on Google Meets! And don't forget to send all of your work through to me on Dojo, email or Google Classroom.
