Good Morning Year 2 J

8:50 – 9:30

This morning we would like you to work on your inference skills, inference is when we make a conclusion based on the information and clues that we have been given. For example, custard pies were stolen. The housekeeper looked nervous and her apron had a yellow stain. From this we can infer that the housekeeper stole the pies. We would like you to look at the pictures below and use your inference skills to answer the questions.

Maths

There will be no online Maths lesson today so could you please read all about the task below and complete the activities. If you need any help or assistance please drop us a message.

In our Maths lesson today we will be continuing to learn all about 3D shapes. We know that you are able to identify the number of faces, edges and vertices that 3D shapes have and now we would like to see if you can identify 2D shapes on the faces of 3D shapes, for example:

We can clearly see that the face of the cube is the same shape as a square so we know that a 2D shape of a square can be found on a 3D shape of a cube.

During the lesson we will be looking at various 3D shapes and identifying which 2D shapes can be found on the faces of them. You will need to print the 3D net document which can be found in the resources section of the class webpage and cut each of the nets out to make the 3D shape, once you have made the shape we would like you to see which 2D shapes can be found on the faces of them and write the name on the shape. There is also an activity about finding the 2D shapes on the face of 3D shapes which we would like you to complete.

10:55 – 11:10

Break time

Times Tables

For the next 25 minutes we would like you to practise your times tables by logging onto Times Tables Rock Stars. The aim of Times Tables Rock Stars is to improve fluency and accuracy, so don’t worry if the questions feel like they are coming at you quickly, the more you practise the more fluent and quicker you will become. You may want to use a piece of scrap paper to write the arrays on which will help you answer the questions. If you don’t have your login please drop us a message on class dojo and we will send it over to you.

English

Today in English we will be working from our Superhero’s Talk for Writing Booklet, if you do not have print out of this we are more than happy to print a copy for you to collect from school just drop us a message and let us know. Or you can read the booklet online and answer the questions in your English book.

We will begin the lesson by reading all about the playground rescue and discussing the meaning of those words highlighted in bold. Once we have done that we will be looking at the questions on page 8 and discussing how we can answer them in full sentences and use the text to help us find the answers.

We would then like you to turn to page 9 which is a creative challenge. We would like you to create your own superhero name using the list of adjectives to help you, for example:

Magnificent Mrs Joesbury

If you could name your name an alliteration that would be even better, for example:

Excellent Eliza

Marvellous Maddison

We would then like you to think about what your superhero power would be and write all about it.
