09.00 – 09.25

Maths times tables

How did you get on with your Multiplication Square yesterday?

Please be sure to keep this safe as we will be returning to it when we are back in school.

After our day away from “Hit The Button”, lets look back on and see if we can beat our scores from Tuesday.

I will let you choose the times table to practise, but please use this time to practise the one you feel least confident with.

Bring your new best score with you for the 9.25am Maths call so I can see how you have got on.

Maths – Reading scales

Google Classroom video call at 09.25am for the first 15 minutes.

In today’s Maths lesson we are going to use the skills we developed on Monday and Tuesday and read lots of different scales.

We are going to read the length of a bar, the weight of some scales and the amount of liquid in a jug.

Whilst these are measuring different things, using three different pieces of equipment, we need to use the SAME skills for all three.

Let’s look at a couple of examples with the three steps you need to follow...

STEP 1         Count how many intervals there are between the labelled numbers.

On this scale, I am going to count the medium and large intervals shown by the red circles.

There are four intervals between the 0 and 20.

STEP 2         To find out how much each interval is worth you would divide 20 (the difference                         between the labelled numbers) by 4 (the number of intervals).

20 divided by 4 = 5 so we know each interval on this scale is worth another 5g.

STEP 3         If you look at the arrow you can see it is…

Two intervals beyond 20mm so it is 20 + 5 + 5 = 30mm.

STEP 1         Count how many intervals there are between the labelled numbers.

On this scale, there are two intervals between the 0 and 100.

STEP 2         To find out how much each interval is worth you would divide 100 (the difference                       between the labelled numbers) by 2 (the number of intervals).

100 divided by 2 = 50 so we know each interval on this scale is worth 50ml.

STEP 3         If you look at the level of the fluid it is one interval above 600 ml.

                    Therefore you would do 600ml + 50ml = 650ml

When you open the activity you will see the first sheet has the units already written in for you HOWEWVER be careful, to get the answers correct on the second sheet you will need to include the units. Please be sure to check what the units are on the measuring scale, and include that in your answer.

I have loaded the activity on our Google Classroom page for you to open, write your answers directly onto the sheet, then submit it back to me when you have completed it.

As a reminder, to find this activity you need to…

1. Go to Classwork at the top of your Google Classroom page

2. Click on the Reading Scales assignment at the top of the screen, then again on the title at the bottom of the box.

3. Click on the Begin With Google.

4. The activity then opens and you write your answers in the boxes provided for each question. Please include your name at the top of the page.

5. When you are happy with all your answers, click the “I’m Done” button at the top of the page and that’s it.

If you have any issues with the above steps, I have attached the worksheets that you can complete as normal.

10.40 – 11.05

English – Boggle

Please see today’s set of letters…

How many words can you make using only the above letters?

Can you find over 20 words? Over 30 words?

I can also confirm there is NOT a 9 letter word today.

Couple of top tips…

Please remember I am only counting words of three letters or more!

It will help if you write out the letters in a different order. This will help you see words you did not see previously.

One of the letters is an “s” so if you can find words that do not include it, you may be able to add the s for an extra word.

You will also see there is an ‘e’ and ‘d’ so you have the suffix of “ed”. You may be able to add that suffix onto some of your words to create additional words.

11.05 – 12.00

English – Persuasive Advertisement

Google Classroom video call at 11.05am for the first 15 minutes.

Building on our theme of “Fruit and Vegetables”, today we are going to look at persuasive writing.

Persuasive writing is when something is written to convince the reader to believe in an idea or opinion and to do an action.

As an introduction to this style of writing the best example is advertisements (or you might know them as adverts).

Adverts often try to convince you that by buying and using their products you will be …

More successful.

More comfortable.

Healthier.

More intelligent.

They do this by using appealing language like…

New improved.

Number One.

Healthier.

Exclusive.

Please have a read of the attached presentation to recap what we have just discussed.

Then using these tools I want you to create an advert for the brand new fruit you created yesterday.

To give you some ideas please see some examples below…

Can you ensure it is colourful to catch people’s eye?

You will need to include a picture of your fruit. Will that be a picture of the outside of your fruit? The inside of your fruit? Or even both?

Can you include some appealing language?

I cannot wait to see what you come up with.

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

Let’s use these 20 minutes to read a book on Bug Club.

I am continuing to review who has less than 3 books remaining and when they have scored over 80% on the questions I will move them up to the next book band.

If you have any questions about the Bug Club books or colour bands or even logging in issues please do not hesitate to message me via Class Dojo.

1.20pm – 1.50pm

RE

As we get closer to Easter, we are going to spend some time looking at Christianity and stories from the bible.

Please settle down and watch the below video which does a really good job of explaining what a “miracle” is and teaches you about some of the miracles Jesus is said to have performed on Earth.

1.50pm – 2.20pm

PE

Please see below today’s new PE challenge.

This one will need good hand eye coordination, so please make sure anything breakable to cleared out the way before you start.

Remember… if any of the objects miss the cup, you need to start from the first cup again!

Can you complete the challenge before our 2.20pm call?

I can’t wait to hear how you get on.

2.20pm – 2.35pm

Mr Gilbey Reads…

Join us at 2.20pm to find out more about Frankie Bannister and his family’s hotel popular with magical creatures where weird is normal!
