Reading

In Reception we change the children's reading books every Friday. Children will always be sent home with two books. One book will be for the children to read to you. At the beginning of the school year, these books will mostly be picture books so that children can begin to tell stories through pictures. As they learn to recognise their sounds and begin to blend words, children will then begin to take home a book with words in that they can decode and read.

The second book will be a book that the adults or older siblings in a household can read to the child. A short video about the importance of reading to children at home can be seen below.

At Moorcroft we use the RWI Phonics programmes to teach children how to read. Click on the star 'RWI' below to find out more on how we teach reading in school and also information to assist you in supporting your child in learning to read at home.

The 'Oxford Owl' page will provide you with details on how to access a fantastic range of eBooks for children to read at home too.

Happy reading!
