Our sound for today is…. b
There are lots of options for practising your sounds again today. Firstly, if you would like to continue with your sequence of RWI lessons on YouTube please feel free to do so using the link below.
Alternatively, tune into the Alphablocks to practise the sound ‘b’. This episode also helps to highlight the difference between the similar looking sounds ‘b’ and ‘d’. Another helpful hint for differentiating between these sounds can be seen at the bottom of this page.
Or why not watch Geraldine practise her ‘b’ sound and then go on a hunt around the house for things beginning with this sound.
Once you have practised saying and reading the sound ‘b’, see if you can have a go at reading the words below. Remember to use your Fred talk to help you.
bad
bug
bus
bin
Can you now have a go at spelling these words? Ask an adult to read a word above and then use your Fred fingers to help you spell it.
Helpful Tip: ‘b’ and ‘d’ look very similar and many children get confused as to which one is which when they come to read words with either of these sounds in. In school we tell children to ‘make your bed’ if they aren’t sure. To do this put both of your thumbs up, turn your hands inwards and put them together. In the word bed the ‘b’ comes first and ‘d’ at the end. So your left hand makes the shape of the ‘b’ and your right a ‘d’, as you can see in the picture below. I hope this tip helps.
