Our sound for today is…. u

If you would like to continue with your sequence of RWI lessons on YouTube please feel free to do so. They are great sessions and mirror how we teach the children in school.

However, if you would like to mix it up and have a change for today, check out the Alphablocks practising their ‘u’ sound by clicking on the link below. The Alphablocks is a fantastic programme that teaches children how to recognise their sounds as well as blend sounds to read words. The children enjoy watching these episodes in school too.

Many of you have been enjoying going on scavenger hunts around the house to find items beginning with our sound of the day. If you fancy, join Geraldine to see what she has found today and then go on a hunt around the house yourself.

Once you have practised saying and reading the sound ‘u’ with the Alphablocks or Geraldine, see if you can have a go at reading the words below. Remember to use your Fred talk to help you.

Can you now have a go at spellings these words? Ask an adult to read a word above and then use your Fred fingers to help you spell it. Remember spelling doesn’t always have to be done using pen and paper. You might like to use magnetic letters, shaving foam or even chocolate spread to practise spelling the words instead.
