Reading

This week we have practised reading and writing the sounds ‘f’, ‘l’ and ‘h’ during our RWI tasks. We haven’t read a comic for a while so how about clicking on the link below and enjoying a ‘Phonics Play’ comic for today. The comic I have chosen for today is called ‘A Bug’. This story has many words in using the sounds we have practised this week.

Try your best to read some of the words for yourself and remember to use your knowledge of sounds and Fred talk to do so. If you get stuck on a word, ask an adult if they can Fred talk the word for you (e.g. b-u-g), listen carefully and then tell them what the word says (e.g. b-u-g, bug). Children can also tell the story using the pictures if they find the word reading a little challenging.

You will come across some sounds you might not be familiar with today. The special friends ‘ff’, ‘ll’ and ‘ss’ are in this comic book story but don’t let them trick you!

‘ff’ looks different but makes exactly the same sound as ‘f’

‘ll’ looks different but makes exactly the same sound as ‘l’

‘ss’ looks different but makes exactly the same sound as ‘s’
