Phonics and Learning to Read

We use phonics to teach early reading.  The teaching of reading using phonics begins in Nursery at Moorcroft Wood and continues throughout the EYFS and rest of school.  It is vital that children become confident and competent readers and we find that the children really enjoy learning this key skill.

The following presentation shares information about how we teach reading in school.  There are links to key videos throughout the presentation, but I have also posted the video about pure sounds below.  Feedback from parents in the past has indicated that the information about pure sounds (how to say the sounds) was particularly useful.  Should you have any questions about the teaching of reading in school and how it can be supported at home, then please feel free to ask.
