Maths

In Maths today we are starting a new unit of ‘Shape.’

Toda we are going to look at 2D shapes. 2D shapes are shapes that are flat. We need to be able to identify the properties (features) of a 2D shape to be able to know which shape it is.

First we need to recognise how many sides a shape has. These can be straight or curved.

A square has 4 straight sides of equal (same) length.

A circle has one curved side.

We also need to be able to identify vertices. Vertices are where two sides meet, also known as corners.

A square has 4 corners. This is where two side meets.

A circle has no vertices as it only has one curved side.

We have attached a shape question sheet on our class page for you to identify the properties and names of the shapes. We have also attached a word mat with the names of the shapes.

Once you have finished, see what shapes you can find in your house.
