Maths

In Maths today we will start a new unit of 3D shapes.

3D shapes have 3 dimensions: faces (the flat or curved sides), vertices (the corners where edges meet) and edges. The 3 dimensions of 3D shapes are measured by length, width and depth. Common 3D shapes include cubes and pyramids.

Today we are going to learn all about the properties of 3D shapes.

Let’s have a look at a cube.

To work out how many faces it has we need to count all of the flat (2D sides).

A cube has 6 faces.

To count the edges we need to count all of the straight line (sides of the shape).

A cube has 12 edges.

To count the vertices we need to count where the edges meet (the corners).

A cube had 8 vertices.

On our class page we would like you to complete the properties worksheet first then the 3D shape spaghetti worksheet.

First we want you to read through the flip chart on our class page.

Once you have read through the flip chart we would like you to click on the plant worksheet on our class page. Here you will find a fact sheet and you have to pick two plants and write all about them, from seed to harvest.

After you have completed the sheet have a look at what plants you can see from your house.

Home Reader

We now have access to Bug Club. This allows you to read a variety of books at the correct book band you are on at school. We have allocated your book bands but once you have read all of the books within your current book band it will automatically move you up to the next one. We can’t wait to see how many book bands you move up.

Remember to start each story by using the read to me button and then read the story yourself. After each story make sure you answer the questions at the back of the book to help with your comprehension skills.
