Hi everyone,
I hope you had an enjoyable bank holiday weekend. If you managed to celebrate VE Day I would love to see photographs of what you did.
In the mean time, here are some activity suggestions for today – remember they are only suggestions. I hope you enjoy the activities.
I can be contacted on class dojo or by emailing EYFS@theatlasfederation.co.uk
Thank you once again for all your hard work and messages.
Kind Regards,
Mr Leese
Activity Suggestions for Today
Phonics and Literacy
Ruth Miskin is delivering a speed sounds lesson on her Youtube channel at 9.30am.
View Alphablocks Series 1 episode 25 – The link is lower down the page.
Have a go at writing lower case ‘s’. See the video below.
Continue working on blending skills; a vital skill is mastering reading. See the activity below where children have to match words to pictures.
You may want to visit ‘Teach Your Monster to Read’. This is an interactive game/app that can be downloaded to a computer for free. Choose the Reception/Pre-Kindergarten section 1 to learn sounds and when children become confident with these, move on to section 2 ‘Fun with Words’.
Check out the online English lesson from Oak Academy relating to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This lesson is the final part of the story writing. The lesson is primarily aimed at Reception aged children, but it is also adapted for Nursery aged children.
Alternatively you may wish to check out the new lesson from Oak – Design a Sweet. We will be following these lessons for the rest of the week.
Maths
In previous lessons children have been learning to count accurately to 10 and finding numbers that are one more and one less than a given number up to 10. Today’s lesson explores counting accurately to 20.
I have included the link to Oak Academy for the counting to 20 lesson and have also included a link to one of the popular counting to 20 songs.
Arts, Crafts and Understanding of the World
I would love to see any photographs that you may have of anything that you did to celebrate 75 years since VE Day. Please send them to me.
Also, there is a link to Oak Academy for an online lesson about being worried. An understanding of emotions is important for children personal, social and emotional development. If children are worried about the current Coronavirus situation, there was a story included in the Easter Activities link on the Nursery homepage called ‘Our World Needs a Clean’ which aims to explain the current situation in child friendly language.
Physical Development
The PE lessons by Joe Wicks can be accessed on You Tube.
Check out Cosmic Yoga - Squish the Fish.
Story Time
Watch and enjoy the story ‘The Bad Tempered Ladybird.’ Think about what we can learn about sharing and being kind from this story.
