Our sound for today is… ng

I was so impressed by how well you began to learn your first couple of set 1 special friends sounds before half term. Well done team! The sound 'ng' has two letters that make one sound too and is our new sound for today.

I have recorded you a speed sounds lesson for our new sound for today. The video involves practising our new sound, practising the sounds we know well, writing our sound, reading our words with ‘ng’ and spelling with them too. Please feel free to pause the video at any point to practise your handwriting and spellings. You can either choose to log onto our Google Classroom page to watch the video I have recorded for you, or you might prefer to use the link below to continue learning your sounds with Ruth on the Ruth Miskin YouTube channel.

Once you have learnt all about your new sound 'ng' with either myself or Ruth, you might like to go on a hunt around the house for things that have this sound in. Geraldine has had a look around her house for items containing the sound 'ng', why not have a look at what she has found.

Handwriting:

The video that I have uploaded to our classroom page includes the handwriting demonstration for our new sound 'ng' too. Take a look and then practise forming 'ng' in sugar, foam, gloop, on paper or in any other way you choose laugh.

Reading:

Again, on the video I have uploaded to Google Classroom, we had a go at reading words containing our new sound ‘ng’ today. We will continue to recap our word time words over the next few days too.

Below I have posted the link to the RWI ditties. If you would like to read our next ditty story (Ditty 5 - the big bag) then please feel free to do so. If you prefer to continue to practise your reading skills on Bug Club, Phonics Play, Oxford Owl or Phonics Play Comics, then please feel free to do so instead. The main thing is, whatever you do, have fun and enjoy it! We all learn best when we are having fun!

Writing:

On our Google Classroom page I have uploaded a video to help you with your writing today. In this video I will show you how we 'hold a sentence' when we practise our writing at school.

After reading the ditty story 'the big bag' earlier, I thought I'll go and have a look in my bag. This is what I found...

In my bag there was a...

pot

pen

mug

peg

Can you help me write down what is in my bag? If you find writing sentences a little tricky please don't worry. If you could write down a list of words of the things in my bag, like my list above, that would be fantastic too! Remember to use your Fred fingers to help you pinch on those sounds before writing the words down.
