Letter Formation

We are working hard to learn how to form all of our letters in Reception. To do this we use the RWI letter formation rhymes that you can find on your set 1 speed sound cards. For example, when we first learn to write the letter 's', we say 'slither down the snake' as we write it.

Whilst it is important to learn to hold and use a pencil correctly to form our letters, it is also important to make learning fun. Why not get creative and practise forming your letters in mud, shaving foam, glitter, flour, salt, paint, whatever you would like to use!

The parent video on handwriting shows a child using an RWI wipe down sheet to practise his sounds. Please do not worry about not having these materials, as I have said above, handwriting can be practised in many different ways. I have uploaded the video just to show you how the child and adult use the RWI letter formation sayings to form their letters.

I would love to see any handwriting you practise at home, please send me some photos on our Class Dojo page.

Have fun!
