Break/ toilet/ log on to Google Classroom
9:55 - 10:55
We will be on Google Classroom at 9:55 to start our 15 minute Maths lesson for the day. Today we will be working from the CGP Workout book and you will need pages 6 and 7. These pages are all about addition so it will be a great way to recap what we already know and practise some of our addition skills. When we are adding in school we often use the number line on our table, I know we don’t have those at home but we can use the ruler that was provided in your pack instead.
We will begin our learning by adding 2 single digit numbers such as 7 + 4 which can be done by using a number line / ruler or by adding mentally. We would start by putting our fingers on the number 7 and then doing 4 jumps, the number that we land is on is the answer. When you add numbers together it does not matter which order you add them in, so you can either add the big number first or the small number first, your choice. For example:
7 + 4 = 11
4 + 7 = 11
We will also be looking at the partitioning method of addition which allows us to separate the tens and the ones making it easier to add them. For example
35 + 42 =
35 = 30 + 5 42 = 40 + 2
30 + 40 = 70 5 + 2 = 7
70 + 7 =77

Times table Practise
The times tables that we need to learn in Year 2 are the 2, 5, 10 and 3. It is really important that you learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables first and are confident with them before moving on to the 3 times tables. In the resources section at the bottom of the page there are some activities that will help you learn your times tables. Remember that when you’re practising your times tables you can use arrays to help you. For example:
5 x 2 =
Draw 5 circles 2 times and then count them all. When you have counted them all you will have the correct answer.
11:35 – 12:25
We will be online again for 15 minutes to learn all about noun phrases. Noun phrases are really great to use in your writing as they add more detail and make your writing more exciting. Below are some examples of noun phrases:
All of these phrases include a noun (a word that names a person, object or place) and also an adjective which is a describing word.
We are going to work through the activity in the Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling booklet on page 3 and then I would like you to think of 5 of your own noun phrases and write each of them in a sentence in your blue book.
12:25 – 1:25
1:25 – 2:05
Our PE days will be Wednesday and Friday and for our session today I would like you to watch and take part in the video below. The video is all about getting active and having fun J If you would rather go for a jog around the garden, play football or go for a walk that would also be great but please make sure you spend this time being active and having fun. The children at school will also be taking part in this video and I’m sure they’ll let you know how much they enjoyed in before our next online session.
2:05 – 2:20
An opportunity to finish reading I’ll Take You to Mrs Cole.
2:20 – 3:00
This time at school every week is golden time, this is our reward for being such stars each week. I think that more than ever this week you have earned your golden time. In the classroom we will be spending some time playing board games together and doing some drawing and colouring activities. We would like you to spend your golden time playing a game with someone in your house, doing some colouring or maybe draw a picture. There are some colouring sheets in the resource section of the page if you would like to print them.
3:00 – 3:20
Please could you also read for 20 minutes today. You all have access to Oxford Owls which provide virtual copies of home reader book and RWI book, remember to match you book colour to the correct one online. The link is below:
If you require any help or assistance please do not hesitate to contact us on the Class Dojo page or on our school Facebook page.
Remember there are Dojo points up for grabs for every picture we see of completed work. If you get 4000 points as a class we will have a surprise when we return back to school.
