Maths times tables

In our final morning session I would like us to continue work with “Hit The Button”, specifically practising the Hit The Question element.

Therefore please choose a times table to practise, but be sure to select it from the right hand side of the screen…

Here you will be given an answer, and you have to select the multiplication that would have given you the answer.

Please choose the times table you are least confident on, and see how much you can improve your score over this session.

09.25 – 10.15
Maths – Four Rules Friday
Google Classroom video call at 09.25am for the first 15 minutes.

It’s back. Everyone’s favourite Maths lesson of the week… Four Rules Friday!

Let’s begin with a couple of warm up questions…

    35 divided by 7
    3 x 6
    748 + 124
    682 - 334
    7/8 - 3/8

Remember our top tips…
Take particular care with what operation the question is asking you. I still see some of you added when you should have taken away!
When looking at division I would use the sharing method (draw the number of boxes) for numbers under 35, whilst for numbers higher than that think about using the bus stop method.
And remember our favourite “when it’s bigger on the floor…”

Do not forget, I am not expecting everyone to finish all 40 questions.
I do expect you to try and beat the number of questions you completed previously.
So if you finished 22 questions last time, today I want you to finish 25.

10.40 – 11.05

English – Commas in a list

KS2 English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Targeted Question Book.

Page 48 and 49.

To complete these pages you will need use the skills we learnt earlier in the week on when ot use commas in a list…

When we include lists of three of more things in our writing we use commas between all the items on the list EXCEPT the last two.

You need to put “and” or “or” between the last two things.

The difference between these pages and the ones from earlier in the week is that in today’s sentences, they use several words to write about each thing in the list.

Therefore you just need to be very clear what the items in the list are so you put the commas in the correct place.

For example let’s look at the below sentence which has no punctuation…

For her birthday Jessica asked for a pink bicycle a new hair

brush a Disney Lego set and a book about fairies.

To be able to punctuate this sentence correctly you need to understand where each item on the list begins and finished.

Having read the list several times to ensure I understand it, I have used different coloursto show each separate item meaning I can see where the commas go and where the last two items are as they need separating by and/or…

For her birthday Jessica asked for a pink bicycle, a new hair

Brush, a Disney Lego set and a book about fairies.

Using these skills, please complete pages 48 and 49 in your Grammar Punctuation and Spelling book.

English – Creative Writing

Google Classroom video call at 11.05am for the first 15 minutes.

With this being our last remote English lesson before our return on Monday, I thought I would provide an image and you could use your creative writing skills to write a short story.

However to ensure you can relate to the picture, and you have plenty of ideas to write about I have chosen two pictures.

This allows you to look at both consider the questions I have included and then write about whichever one you will enjoy the most.

Picture A

Firstly you will need to think whose perspective will you write from? The troll or the people who are running away?

Do you think the trolls are friendly or do they pose a threat?

How will people feel about seeing the trolls?

How will the trolls feel about seeing people?

Where do you think the trolls have travelled from?

Why do you think they have come here?

Picture B

What do you think it is that Poppy and Jasper have seen?

Where do you think Poppy got the aircraft from?

What will happen next?

Where do you think they had planned on going?

Will they reach their destination?

Whatever picture you choose, whatever you choose to write, please remember the basics.

I expect you to use your best handwriting, remembering your finger spaces and

of course capital letter on the first word of every sentence and any time a name is used.

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

For the last time, please settle down, snuggle up with a pillow and take some time for some quiet reading with your Bug Club library.

1.20pm – 2.20pm

Enrichment

After another superb week, you can use this time to do something that you enjoy.

Want to do a Joe Wicks PE lesson or a yoga workout?

Why not do a good deed around the house?

Maybe you enjoyed our fruit drawing earlier in the week and want to try again?

Perhaps you want to get everything ready for Monday’s return to school so you don’t need to do it on Saturday or Sunday?

Whatever makes you happy, please do it and enjoy it in this hour.

You deserve it after the last eight weeks of amazing remote learning!

2.20pm – 2.55pm
