HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYBODY.

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL ON THE THIRD

YEAR 3 AND 4 CHALLENGE AT 2.20PM

WHAT WILL IT BE THIS WEEK?

ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT, AND THAT’S TO DIAL IN.

09.00 – 09.25

Maths times tables

Happy Friday everybody!

We have not spent too long on our times tables this week so rather than do another number pyramid, this is a chance for you to log onto Hit The Button, select your times table of choice, and get as high a score as possible.

Remember to make a note of your first score, and then spend the rest of this session trying to beat it.

I am going to let you choose your own times table to practise today, but if you are feeling really brave you could always try the ‘Mixed’ option.

Please bring your first and best scores with you to the 9.25am Maths call so you can share with everyone how you have got on.

Maths – Four Rules Friday

Google Classroom video call at 09.25am for the first 15 minutes.

It’s everyone’s favourite Maths lesson of the week… Four Rules Friday!

Shall we attempt a couple of questions to get us warmed up…

  1. 432 + 16
  2. 6 x 4
  3. 488 divided by 4
  4. 3/6 - 1/6

As you can tell from the warm up questions, because of our hugely successful learning over the last two weeks, these 40 questions include both money and fraction questions!

Do not panic, remember the steps we learnt and you will be fine.

I am not expecting everyone to finish all 40 questions. I do expect you to try and beat the number of questions you completed last week.

So if you finished 22 questions last week, today I want you to finish 26.

Also don’t forget our top tips…

  • Take particular care with what operation the question is asking you.
  • When adding or subtracting fractions, the denominator stays the same but you will need to add or subtract the numerators depending on the operation.
  • When looking at division I would use the sharing method (draw the number of boxes) for numbers under 35, whilst for numbers higher than that think about using the bus stop method.

You will also see some extension question below should you manage to answer all 40!

10.40 – 11.05

English – Boggle

By popular demand… It’s the return of the Boggle!

Please see today’s set of letters…

Your tasks…

  1. How many words can you make from the above letter? Three or more letters only. Yesterday the best score I saw was OVER 40! Can you get close to this?
  2. There is a nine letter word, can you find it?

11.05 – 12.00

English – Creative Writing

Google Classroom video call at 11.05am for the first 15 minutes.

We are going to have a day off from our Journey to the Jungle topic today.

I thought it might be nice to finish the week with a short burst of creative Writing.

Therefore please see below an image for you to look at and write a short story about.

The Invasion

What you write, or whose perspective you write from is up to you.

Are you going to write it as if you are the man on horseback watching these giant machines rising from the ground? Or maybe you could be one of the machines looking down at the small man?

Let your imagination take you wherever you want to go.

All I want you to remember is to make your writing as descriptive as possible. The best way of doing that is using TWO adjective to describe every noun.

For example

DO NOT WRITE               “the man”

DO WRITE                      “the scared, young man”

Be sure to join us at 11.05am so we can share some ideas ready for you to create some amazing fiction writing.

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

For the last time this week, settle down, snuggle under a blanket, grab a pillow and take some time for some quiet reading with your Bug Club library.

I have now moved 5 or 6 people up new books bands so it is possible as long as you use this time every day on Bug Club!

Please remember

  • When reading a book, put it on full screen as this enables you to see and use the back and next buttons clearly.
  • If there is a bug on the page it means you have questions to answer. Click on the bug and that will reveal the question that needs answering correctly before you can move book bands.

1.20pm – 2.20pm

Enrichment

After another amazing week from you all, please use this hour to do whatever you enjoy doing.

Was there an activity from Monday’s wellbeing day that you did not finish? Was there one you didn’t get time to start? Why not do it now.

Or maybe you enjoy colouring. If so, why not do some colouring?

You could do some exercise.

You could play with your pet or your favourite toy.

Whatever makes you happy and you enjoy doing, please do it in this hour.

Just make sure you are back on our Google Meet for 2.20pm LATEST for the third instalment in Year 3 and 4 Class Challenge (more details below).

2.20pm – 2.55pm
