KS2 English Maths Targeted Question Book - MONEY

Page 42.

Using all the knowledge we have acquired this week, please answer page 42 in your Maths Targeted Question Book, all about money.

You should be able to answer these three questions in this 25 minute session, but please take some time to read my Top Tips below first.

Mr Gilbey’s top tips…

  • Please take your time to read the questions carefully. You may find them easier to read them out loud to your adult.
  • Any time you are asked to find the difference between two numbers, or how much is left after buying something, you are always going to use SUBTRACTION!
  • When completing column addition or column subtraction remember to take your time on laying out the numbers

Maths – Four Rules Friday!

Google Classroom video call at 09.25am for the first 15 minutes.

My favourite Maths lesson of the week… its Four Rule Friday!

Just a couple of things to remind you before you start…

  • I have set 40 questions. This does not mean I expect you to complete all 40! I want you to attempt as many as possible. If you completed 25 last week can you complete 30 or more this week?
  • If you complete the 40 questions today, I have included some extension questions to push you a little further.
  • Take particular care with what operation the question is asking you.
  • When looking at division I would use the sharing method (draw the number of boxes then share the amount equally across them) for numbers under 35, whilst for numbers higher than that think about using the bus stop method.

10.40 – 11.05

Maths – puzzle.

In this short session I’m bringing back a Maths puzzle.

For today, look at the below shape and count how many triangles you can see.

There are a lot more than you think initially.

For example, let’s just look at the very top part of the triangle…

This part alone has 6 triangles.

Using this as a steer, how many can you see in the whole shape?

I have attached the triangle below so if you can print it off, it might be easier to draw on the triangle like the example above.

Bring the number of triangles you can find to the 11.05am and we can see who gets closest.

11.05 – 12.00

History Comprehension

Google Classroom video call at 11.05am for the first 15 minutes.

Boudicca was an ancient British queen during the Celtic era who fought against the Romans as they invaded Britain.

Below is a text telling you more about her and her life, with some questions to answer after reading the text.

Before reading the text and attempting the questions, let’s remember our comprehension rules…

  • Read the text three times before even looking at the questions!
  • Remember to underline the key information.
  • Do not be afraid to move on if you cannot answer a question then you can return to it at the end.
  • The answers are in the text, all you have to do is find them!
  • Be sure to read the question carefully. If it asks for two things, give two answers.
  • This text has sub-headings – use these to help you find where the answers are.

Follow these rules, take your time, and I am sure you will all do amazing.

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

For the last time this week, settle down with a pillow, snuggle under a blanket and use this time for some more quiet reading.

A couple of Bug Club reminders …

  • It is NOT how quickly you read the books that will decide if you move up book bands.
  • It is actually how you score on the questions that you are asked throughout the book.
  • Therefore please read the book several times before even attempting the questions.

1.20pm – 2.20pm

Enrichment activities

We have had another amazing week from you all, so you all deserve some enrichment time.

Whilst you can do whatever you enjoy during this hour, over the weekend is the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch so it might be nice to look at that.

Please see below a link to the RSPB page telling you all about it and how you can take part.

Even if you do not want to take part in the survey, the RSPB have also created a web page detailing all their top tips on how to make your garden an attractive place for birds to stop for a snack.

Why not use this time to see if you can use any of these tips for your outside space to attract birds.

If you do this, please ask an adult to send me some pictures of what you do to make your garden bird friendly.

2.20pm – 2.35pm

YEAR 3 and 4 CHALLENGE.

Dial into the video session the same way as you usually would for “Mr Gilbey Reads” but the session will be the second Year 3 and 4 Challenge.

Once everyone is on Miss Perry and I will set the challenge and you will have between 15 and 20 minutes to complete it.

To help prevent any IT issues, the video call started at 2.20 will remain open so no one has issues trying to get back in. This means once we have set the task, you can turn your video and mic off whilst you complete it, and when you are ready, turn them back on again ready for the results show.

We will be starting PROMPTLY at 2.20pm so please ensure you are on before then. I will be on the call from about 2.05pm so feel free to log on from then and keep me company!

See you all then!
