One final trick I will teach you today is the way that I subtract numbers mentally when they cross over to below ten. For the example below, 15 - 9, I would aim to get to ten first. To do that, I would need to take 5 away. So I can break 9 into a part of 5 and a part of 4.
15 - 5 is easy to solve and gives me 10. I still have the other part of 4 to take away. Using my number pairs to ten that we did on Monday, I know that 4 and 6 make ten. So 10 - 4 = 6.
These steps have helped me solve 15 - 9 = 6. This is a strategy that can use the known facts from our learning this week to find the answers without needing to count a single number! A far more reliable and quicker method.
Task 1: Solve the following problems by getting down to ten first and then using your number pairs to ten to subtract the remaining ones left over.
Task 2: Think about which part whole model to will be helpful to solve each number sentence. Think carefully, although they are all taking 6 away, not all parts will be helpful to solve them quickly.
Find the answer for each one.

Verbs are words that tell us what is happening, what someone or something is doing. We have been using verbs in our writing since we started our time together in Year 1 but we may never have known we were. A verb will be the yellow word in our colourful grid that tells us what doing?
Task 1:
Using the yellow cards in your pack, perform the action the verb is showing you. Can you think of three more verbs that show you what you are doing. Write these in your blue writing book.
Task 2:
On page 14 of your Octopus Book, look at the picture and think about what each the children are doing. Read the questions to find out who is doing what.

I'm saying no more...
Join me for a bit of a giggle as we round off our week.
It has been a very busy week. You have worked your socks off! For Golden Time today, I would like you to have a go at my drawing challenge: How to draw a dragon! I've put a video tutorial down below. Don't worry if it doesn't look exactly the same as in the video, as no one has actually seen a dragon to know if that is what they look like.
If you are able to, I'd recommend getting outside if you can. Wrap up with some wellies and go for a walk, seeing if you can spot a dragon lurking about in our local area. Be on the look out for their smoke or steam!
As Golden Time is your choice, you may choose any activity you wish from reading or baking to building or dancing. Whatever makes you feel happy.
Thank you for an incredible week! Have a great weekend!
