Maths

Matching number sentences.

Please connect to Google Classrooms for a 15 minute Meet to talk you through your learning today.

https://classroom.google.com/c/MTkxMTM1MTYzNTI1?cjc=syydppc

You will need your counting objects from yesterday and your two tens frames please.

The equal sign is used when each side is the same. 1 + 1 = 2. The two part to the left of the equal sign are the same as the whole number on the right. We can even use an equal sign with two number sentences, one on each side, so long as they give us the same total.

1 + 2 = 3 + 0.

1 + 2 = 3 as does 3 + 0 so both statements are the same, they are both equal.

Take a look at the example below:

Today we will be applying all of the skills we have learned this week to match two statements that are equal using an equal sign.

Task 1:

I have a mini quiz for you today, using your addition skills to match two equal statements together. You can use any strategy you like to solve them however we have learned some more efficient ways to add numbers larger than ten this week that may be helpful.
You could challenge yourself to try:

  • Counting on
  • Making a group of ten and finding the ones left over
  • Partitioning the ten and ones to add ones together

Some questions will ask you to match one number sentence to another. If both number sentences give you the same answer, then both number sentences are equal.

I have two ways that you can complete it.

Option 1:

Follow this link to a quiz I have set up on Google Classrooms. Follow this link and sign in with your usual details.

https://forms.gle/CgAmF5MLVhxekoTh8

The quiz will automatically send me your score so I will not need a photo sending.

Option 2:

Use the trusty old pencil and answer these same questions in your maths books.

  1. 18 =
    1. 10 + 3
    2. 10 + 5
    3. 10 + 7
    4. 10 + 8
  2. 14 =
    1. 10 + 2
    2. 10 + 3
    3. 10 + 4
    4. 10 + 5
  3. 16 =
    1. 6 + 10
    2. 5 + 10
    3. 4 + 10
    4. 3 + 10
  4. 12 + 4 =
    1. 12
    2. 16
    3. 14
    4. 19
  5. 11 + 4 =
    1. 20
    2. 11
    3. 19
    4. 15
  6. 16 + 1 =
    1. 10 + 7
    2. 10 + 6
    3. 10 + 4
    4. 10 + 1
  7. 11 + 5 =
    1. 10 + 4
    2. 10 + 5
    3. 10 + 6
    4. 10 + 7
  8. 18 + 1 =
    1. 12 + 4
    2. 14 + 5
    3. 11 + 6
    4. 13 + 5

Please send me a photo in the usual way if you have done this in your book.

Adjectives - Where did Emma Jane go to next?

Please connect to Google Classrooms for a 15 minute Meet to talk you through your learning today.

https://classroom.google.com/c/MTkxMTM1MTYzNTI1?cjc=syydppc

At the end of Emma Jane's Aeroplane, she zooms off in to the sky. Where do you think she may go?

We will use this lesson to think of some ideas of WHERE Emma Jane will fly to next. We will use this information next week.

To help build an image of the place we are visiting we will be using adjectives. Adjectives tell us more about something, in this case, what the place we are visiting is like.

Task 1:

Draw three pictures of places that Emma Jane could fly to next. Could it be Walsall, Scotland, Jamaica, Africa, India?

Why not research some places here if you are unsure: www.gojetters.com/watch/

Task 2:

Write at least five adjectives to tell me more about the place you have chosen.

  • What can be seen?
  • What can be heard?
  • What is the weather like?
  • What time of day is it?

Some of these words may help you.

Send me a photo of your places through ClassDojo.
