Friday 12th February

Good morning Year 3.

We are back to our usual routine today so I can’t wait to see you all

Maths times tables

In this session I would like us to continue becoming fluent in our 8 times table.

As we have had a day off, why not start by writing out the 8 times table like you can see below.

8 Times Table

1 x 8 = 8

2 x 8 = ?

3 x 8 = ?

4 x 8 = ?

5 x 8 = ?

6 x 8 = ?

7 x 8 = ?

8 x 8 = ?

9 x 8 = ?

10 x 8 = ?

11 x 8 = ?

12 x 8 = ?

Then, let’s open Hit the Button from the link below, and see what score you can achieve.

Can you remember the first score you got on your eight times table on Wednesday?

How many can you beat it by?

Bring both scores with you to 9.25 so I can see how much you have improved.

09.25 – 10.15

Maths – Four Rules Friday

Google Classroom video call at 09.25am for the first 15 minutes.

It’s back. Everyone’s favourite Maths lesson of the week… Four Rules Friday!

Let’s begin with a couple of warm up questions…

  1. 30 divided by 6
  2. 2 x 7
  3. 462 - 133
  4. 3/6 + 2/6

Remember our top tips…

  • Take particular care with what operation the question is asking you. Last week some of you added when you should have taken away!
  • When looking at division I would use the sharing method (draw the number of boxes) for numbers under 35, whilst for numbers higher than that think about using the bus stop method.

Do not forget, I am not expecting everyone to finish all 40 questions.

I do expect you to try and beat the number of questions you completed last week.

So if you finished 25 questions last week, today I want you to finish 30.

If you do finish all 40, I have some word problems as an extension.

10.40 – 11.05

English – Boggle

What better way to finish the Half Term than our favourite English task… our Boggle!

Please see today’s set of letters…

Remember I am only counting three letters or more.

I can confirm there is NOT a nine letter word.

How many words can you make using only the above letters?

Can you find over 20 words? Over 30 words?

Bring your list to the 11.05am call so I can see what words you found.

11.05 – 12.00

English – Comprehension

Google Classroom video call at 11.05am for the first 15 minutes.

Having just finished our last class read of The World’s Worst Teachers, I thought it would be nice to answer questions about the author David Walliams.

The below text will let you about who he is, his childhood, his acting and writing career and his amazing work for charity.

So read the text and then attempt to answer the questions attached.

Before doing this, let’s remember our comprehension rules…

  • Read the text three times before even looking at the questions!
  • Remember to underline the key information.
  • Do not be afraid to move on if you cannot answer a question then you can return to it at the end.
  • The answers are in the text, all you have to do is find them!
  • Be sure to read the question carefully. If it asks for two things, give two answers.
  • This text has sub-headings – use these to help you find where the answers are.

Follow these rules, take your time, and I am sure you will all do amazing.

If you do not have access to a printer I would suggest you open the questions document and make a note of all the questions in your blue English text book leaving space for your answers. Then you can open the text document on your device and leave it keep up whilst you read the text and then answer the questions.

1.00pm – 1.20pm

Quiet Reading Time

For the last time this Half Term, settle down, snuggle up with a pillow and take some time for some quiet reading with your Bug Club library.

At the end of the day I will have a look at how many books you all have left and what scores you have achieved on the quizzes and if you have read most books and scored well on the questions, I will move you up a book band colour.

1.20pm – 2.20pm

Enrichment

After a superb week, you can all use this time to do something that you enjoy.

Want to do a Joe Wicks PE lesson or a yoga workout?

Why not do a good deed around the house?

Want to take some time to do some colouring?

Maybe you enjoy drawing and want to learn how to shade? Shading is a great way to make your drawings look like they are photos rather than drawings.

If so, why not watch the below video.

How to Shade basic forms ( 3D shapes )

Whatever makes you happy, please do it in this hour.

You deserve it!

2.20pm – 2.55pm

Year 3 and 4 Class Challenge!

It’s time for the very last Year 3 and 4 Class Challenge on the Half Term.

This will start at 2.20pm so please ensure you are on the usual Google Meet for this time.

I will open this call 15 minutes early so if you want, you can get in from 2.05pm.

And before you ask… no I won’t give you a clue!

See you all then!
