Develop a Love of Reading

During their time in EYFS children will be learning to read, however the information in this section relates to sharing books and stories at home for pleasure.  We want all of our children to love books and stories.  We are lucky enough to have our very own EYFS library where children and parents are welcome to loan books to share at home.  As part of the 1000 Stories initiative developed by Walsall Council we offer tips to parents about sharing stories with their children and suggestions about how books can be used to aid language development.   See the videos below where former headteacher Neil Griffiths shares some tips about how to bring stories alive during story time.

1000 Stories

As part of the 1000 Stories initiative, children and parents will have access to the EYFS library.  Here, you are welcome to borrow books to share at home.  Children will be given a card containing tips about how to get the most from the book.  On the back of the card is a grid where children can collect stamps and rewards each time they share a book.  Further information about the 1000 Stories initiate will be provided at a parent workshop.
