Choosing Time

It’s choosing time! Take your pick from the options below or play with your lovely toys and games at home. The choice is yours.

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Board Games. Play a board game – practise taking turns and celebrate winning or losing! Learn that it’s the taking part that counts. You might even like to create your own board game!

  • Communication & Language – What’s in the Box? Decorate a lidded box such as a shoe box. Cut two holes in the side for your hands to go through. Place an interesting item in the box and place your hands in to feel the item. Can you describe the item to an adult? What shape is it? How does it feel? Once you have described the item, can you guess what it is?

  • Physical Development – Yoga. Do some yoga. You can follow along to some wonderful yoga stories on Cosmic Kids Yoga. Take your pick from a Cosmic Yoga video below or visit their YouTube channel to choose your own.

  • Literacy – Sensory Writing. Using shaving foam on a baking tray, practise making patterns, writing letters or even your name.

  • Maths – Counting Songs and Rhymes. Learn different number songs such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, once I caught a fish alive, 5 little monkeys or 10 green bottles.

  • Understanding the World – Float or Sink? Choose a selection of items from around the house and predict if you think they will float or sink before testing each item in the bath or sink. Did you notice any patterns? Why do some float and some sink? Remember to always take care near water.

  • Expressive Arts & Design – Loose Part Art. Using items such as bottle tops, beads, counters, coins, jenga blocks, pegs, lolly sticks, buttons, bangles, curtain rings, nuts and bolts etc. can you make your own artwork or patterns?
