Zoom call at 9:10 for the first 15 minutes (log in details will be the same for every session). Please attend if possible.

In this lesson we are going to be using our multiplication skills, this is something that you have become very good at this year so it’s time to show off what you know.

Remember to use your long multiplication and remember that 0 for your place holder in the second row of yours ones column.

Please layout your work as your would do in class using the column method.

Quiet Reading Time

Find a comfortable spot for your reading or you may want to find an unusual place for a change. Ask your adult to send me a picture of you reading in your spot or tell me where it is on Class Dojo.

Make sure you have your reading record signed by an adult at home to show that you have kept up your reading and send over a picture on Class Dojo, this will earn you more dojos.

English

KS2 English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Book – Pages 6 and 7

Modal Verbs and Skellig Activity

Zoom call at 10:50am for the first 15 minutes (log in details the same as previous sessions). Please attend.

You have two tasks for English today – not only would I like you to complete Pages 6 and 7 on Modal Verbs which I will talk about in a minute but I would also like us to get started on our new class read ‘Skellig’.

When it comes to modal verbs I will go over these in the introduction online but you will need to know that modal verbs show a possibility so something might happen or it will happen. Take a look at the yellow box at the top of page 6 to give you some more ideas of modal verbs.

Make sure on Question 4 that you do include the modal verb that is stated above each dotted line.

Skellig Activity

I have attached a copy of Chapter One of Skellig – please take some time to read through this and answer the 4 comprehension questions based on this once you have read it. Also, write a prediction in your books as to what you think might happen in the rest of the book – Who is the man? Why is he there? How do you think he got there?

11:50 – 12:30

History

Maya

As you are aware our new History topic this term is the Maya. This was an ancient civilisation from Mesoamerica. Today we are going to find out more about the countries where the Mayan people lived, you will also be using a bit of your Geography knowledge and skills with a map/atlas.

Please read through the PowerPoint presentation below and follow the instructions on the slides. I have also attached a World Map for you to mark on where Central America is and the countries where they lived along with a map of Central America where you need to mark the places named on the slide. As detailed in the last slide, in your books can you create a ‘Welcome to the Maya Area’ tourist information page that includes the answers to the questions on that slide. I am looking forward to seeing how you would persuade people to visit the Maya area.

1:15 – 2:35

Science

Flowering Plants

This term our Science topic is Living Things and their Habitats. For the first part of this term we will be looking at plants and how they reproduce along with animals and their life cycles. Today, take a look at the slides below. Read through and complete the activities you come across along the way. Once you have looked through the slides and read the information please complete sheet one – this is based on you labelling the parts of a flowering plant, you will need to complete each line (don’t forget to refer to the slides), at the bottom of the sheet can you explain the difference between the stamen and the carpel.

Once you have completed this sheet move on to the next one – I have attached a video below of a flowering plant dissection for you to watch. If you have a flowering plant/stem at home please ask if you could dissect the flower very carefully to identify its different parts. If you do not have one then please take some time to draw the different parts that are talked about on the video and label them – refer to the images you see throughout the video.

Miss Wall Reads

This is your opportunity to choose our class read from the variety that I present, I don’t want to read ahead with Skellig but we will get to the point when we have completed some work on the book that we will be able to get through the book. Come along and help us choose which book we will read for now.
