Dress to Express Friday

As part of Children’s Mental Health Week one of the activities we are going to take part in is the "Dress to Express" campaign tomorrow. All this means is that you can dress in any clothes you like that helps to show off your personality, this might include a certain colour, a sparkly top, a sports top, some cool trainers etc. This can also include accessories and hair etc.

I look forward to seeing what you have chosen to wear.

Maths

Metric Units

Google Classroom at 9:10 for the first 15 minutes (Click the Meet Link). Please attend.

Today we are going to continue working on converting between metric units – remember you need your multiplication and division by 10, 100 and 1000 to help you.

When multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 remember the digits move to the left and when dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 remember the digits move to the right.

Some of you got a little confused yesterday when you were dividing a whole number by 10, 100 or 1000 as it still looked like the same number you started with. When you are using a whole number remember the decimal comes to the right of the number in the ones column. Once you have this in it should make it a little easier to see how your digits move to create a decimal number

Eg. 345 ÷1000 = 0.345

To be able to do this I would need to out the decimal after the 5 and jump my digits to the right 3 times. If I hadn’t got my decimal it would still be the same number, this is why it is important to remember it.

I have attached below 3 worksheets for you to complete today – each one focuses on a different aspect of metric measurement (capacity, length and mass and I again have popped the conversion charts on too for your reference.

10:30-10:50

Quiet Reading Time – Bug Club

Find a comfortable spot for your reading or you may want to find an unusual place for a change. Ask your adult to send me a picture of you reading in your spot or tell me where it is on Class Dojo.

Make sure you have your reading record signed by an adult at home to show that you have kept up your reading and send over a picture on Class Dojo, this will earn you more dojos.

Music

Charanga Yumu

Today’s lesson is focused on you accessing Charanga Yumu, if you follow the link below it will take you to the login page.

https://charanga.com/yumu/login

Please use your Yumu login to access Step 5 of the Adele work this week. Today you need to listen to and appraise Tony Bennett singing ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ and ‘Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter’ by John Williams. Take some time to listen to them both a couple of times to become familiar with the songs – it may be that some of you have heard them before.

Answer the questions on the page once you have listened to them, make sure you jot these down somewhere – whether it’s in your blue lined books or on a word document that’s up to you.

Once you have done your listening and appraising, it’s over to you – time to Express Yourself, you might want to create a dance to once of your favourite songs, a Tiktok routine or write some words for a song that already exists or a new song that you come up with.

English- Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling – Pages 74, 75 & 76

Word Endings

Google Classroom at 10:50am for the first 15 minutes. (Click on the Meet Link). Please attend.

Today’s lesson is going to focus on spelling practice – this rule is something that quite a lot of people (even adults) get muddled with sometimes.

Pages 74 & 75 are based around the ‘shun’ sound. This sound can be spelt many different ways in words we use with ‘shun’ in, like magician (in this instance it’s a –cian ending) or action (here we see a –tion ending) or expansion (here the word ends in –sion) and finally admission (here there is a –ssion ending).

The –cian ending is used when the root word ends in ‘c’ or ‘cs’

The –tion ending is used when the root word ends in ‘t’ or ‘te’

The – sion ending is used when the root word usually ends in ‘d’, ‘de’ or ‘se’

The –ssion ending is used when the root word ends in ‘ss’ or ‘mit’

Once you have completed these turn over to Page 76 for the ‘shus’ sound, again this has a couple of different ways the ‘shus’ sound is spelt (-tious or –cious)

When the root word ends in ‘ce’ the ‘shus’ spelling would be –cious.

Enrichment

In class Miss Bradshaw is in the process of creating a Positivi-Tree this is where we can write down all the positive things that happen throughout the week whether they are in school or at home. Even though you guys are at home you can still contribute to the comments on the leaves. Take some time this afternoon to think about 3 positive things that have happened to you this week, a positive impact you have had on someone at home or something that has made you feel positive – send over your positivity to me and we can start to add some leaves to our Positivi-Tree.

Also for your Enrichment this week I want you to go and spend some time doing something that makes you happy. Enjoy and don’t forget to send some photos over of those smiley, happy faces – it’d be a perfect way to end the week.
