Multiplying and Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000

Zoom call at 9:10 for the first 15 minutes (log in details will be the same for every session). Please attend if possible.

In this lesson we are going to be using our multiplication and division knowledge along with our place value skills too as we did on Friday. This time you will also need your inverse operations knowledge too – remember the opposite of multiply is a divide and the opposite of divide is multiply.

When you are working the questions using the inverse you will need to look carefully at the answer you are aiming for

Example 1:

0.56 x ____ = 56

When thinking about this question have a look at the starting number and your answer, if you line them up underneath you can see how many places the digits have moved.

So 0.56 x _100_ = 56

Where you have 2 numbers before the equals sign you will need to work out the bit before and then have a look at what else you need to do to find the answer

Example 2:

10 x ______ x 9.45 = 9450

So first you need to do 9.45 x 10 as this is all before the equals sign

So now I have 94.5 but it needs to be 9450 as that is my answer, again as before write out 94.5 and put 9450 underneath using the place value columns you know.

Because you are having to make two jumps to the left this means you need to multiply by 100.

So the missing number in the box would be 100.

10 x 100 x 9.45 = 9450

Quiet Reading Time

Find a comfortable spot for your reading or you may want to find an unusual place for a change. Ask your adult to send me a picture of you reading in your spot or tell me where it is on Class Dojo.

Make sure you have your reading record signed by an adult at home to show that you have kept up your reading and send over a picture on Class Dojo, this will earn you more dojos.

Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Book – Pages 30 and 31

Google Classroom at 10:50am for the first 15 minutes. Click on the Meet Link at the top of the 5W classroom. Please attend.

Today we are going to focus on our SPaG and look into tenses with a focus on present and past tense. When we use the present tense we refer to what is happening at this very moment and the tense is dictated by the verb that we use.

Eg; Justin kicks the ball – Kicks shows that is it present tense

When we use past tense – the verb will changed to something that has already happened.

Eg: Justin kicked the ball – kicked shows that it has already happened and it past tense.

On Page 22, think about the word in front of the verb this time and either change it to were or was – to turn it into past tense.

Geography

Rivers

This term our Geography topic is Rivers so today you are going to start by learning about the different parts of a river. Take a look at the presentation below and read through about the different parts and how they all work to make a river from the source to the mouth of the sea. Once you have looked at the presentation, you then need to match up the names of the parts to the image on the activity sheet.

PE

For PE this week you will need to get 4 socks ready. Take a look at the sock based activities on the videos below, clear some space on the floor and have a go at the 3 activities you see. Parents – remember to take some photos of the children completing these activities and let me know their scores on Class Dojo.

We will begin to read some more of our class read ‘Skellig’ – this session will take place on Google Classroom. I will be reading Chapters 3, 4 and 5 during this session. I wonder what we will find out about Michael, the garage and the new house.
